Reviews for PhyToga Series

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I take two classes per week. Prior to taking them, I had chronic pain in my upper back and neck from decades of hunching over performing medical studies. Since taking these sessions for a couple of months, much of the discomfort has markedly lessened. Additionally, Christine, has to be one of the most pleasant people that I have, personally, dealt with. Her professional knowledge and caring attitude are a credit to her as a human being. A welcome oasis in these turbulent times

PhyToga Fit, Tuesdays @ 9:30 am, Christine Sturgis (In Studio)

PhyToga is a comprehensive exercise program that combines physical therapy principles with the benefits of yoga, Pilates, functional movement, strength training and other movement modalities, creating an exercise experience that improves mobility, stability, strength, flexibility, and balance. This is a multi level class with modifications provided.

PhyToga Balance, Stability & Posture, Wednesdays @ 8:15 am, Christine Sturgis (In Studio)

Come play with Christine and do activities that are fun, engaging and challenging to improve balance, stability and posture - they all go together and you can't improve one without improving the other two!! Christine will teach you how to find your "kinesthetic awareness" (proprioception), which is your body's way of sensing where it is in space. We will re-pattern the brain so that you will integrate what you learn into everyday activities to safely enjoy all the things you love to do, significantly improving your functional mobility and performance.  This is a multi level class that will be adapted to your level and progress you as appropriate.

PhyToga Kettlebells: The Basics, Thursdays @ 9:30 am, Christine Sturgis (In Studio)

Sarcopenia—the gradual, involuntary loss of muscle mass and strength—accelerates rapidly after age 50, affecting everything from energy levels and joint health to balance, hormones, and even mental well-being. But here's the good news: you can fight back.

The most effective tools? Progressive strength training and Sprint Interval Training (SIT). To build and maintain strength after 50, lifting progressively heavier loads is essential—it’s the only way to stimulate muscle growth and preserve function. And SIT? It’s a powerhouse: boosting cardiovascular health, revving up metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity, burning stubborn belly fat, and building strength.

Thanks to hormonal shifts that come with age, we need to give our nervous system a powerful reason to adapt. With the right stimulus, we can unlock better muscle tone, sharper cognition, improved metabolic health, and a stronger, more resilient body—and mind.

Move Strong, Mondays @ 9:30 am, Nicole Rodriguez (In Studio)

Restore your body's stability, mobility and strength! This energetic, full body exercise class draws from Pilates, therapeutic Barre, functional fitness and resistance training. Pack your sneakers because we will also do some low-impact cardio interval training to get that heart rate up! Emphasis will be placed on posture, balance, core strength and proper form. Everyone is welcome in this all-levels class. Modifications happily provided.

Dance Fusion, Fridays @ 9:30 am, Nicole Rodriguez (In Studio)

Dance Fusion is a blend of modern and jazz dance to a fabulously curated playlist. Class includes a warmup sequence, simple dance patterns, and concludes with some short stretches. Improve your strength, balance and coordination while having fun doing so! This is a multi level class, but some dance experience is helpful but not necessary.

Yoga For Life, Mondays @ 10:45 am, Karen Gagnier (In Studio)

All students will be able to participate and contribute to class in a meaningful way. Rich has had extensive experience with various modalities of yoga, but cites his training in the Anusara style as being the most beneficial to enhancing the experience of students. Anusara is a hatha yoga system that emphasizes alignment and a "celebration of the heart." Also a massage therapist by trade, Richard is hands on while teaching and very skilled in adjustment/assisting. Students will use a "permission stone" to indicate if they are ok with manual hands on adjustments during class. Participants should expect an enjoyable and challenging atmosphere in which to practice. Alignment is emphasized, but the class flows beautifully in a way that builds upon proper foundations. Some yoga experience is beneficial, but not necessary to participate in class.

Cardio “Step Into Shape”, Wednesdays @ 9:30 am, Jackie Bobrin (In Studio)

"Step into Shape" with this energetic class designed to bring your heart rate up and down through cardio interval training using the classic "fitness step" a la Jane Fonda! Jackie will create simple and fun patterns that you can follow and build upon with each class. Set to fun music, it will keep the energy high as you improve cardiac health, coordination and balance. Cardio conditioning is a cornerstone for longevity, vitality and mental acuity. Come and get your mojo on and "Step into Shape" with Jackie!

Class is 45 minutes long.

Inner Balance Yoga, Thursdays @ 10:45 am, Susan Goldstein (In Studio)

Susan will help each student create a practice that feels safe, accessible, and effective for them, especially if they are new to yoga or unsure where to start. This class focuses on the fundamentals to help build proper alignment, flexibility, strength, and balance - at your own pace. Susan will guide you through a gentle and uplifting practice that fosters both physical and mental well-being. Whether you're a beginner or looking to deepen your practice, we are here to support you every step of the way.

Physiyoga, Fridays @ 10:45 am, Deborah Livingston (In Studio)

Please join Deb Livingston, PT, DPT, CYT to explore your mind and body’s ability to stack (find awareness and neutral), stabilize and strengthen in various yoga poses.  Deb will teach you to understand the “why” and how to integrate movement patterns for efficiency on and off the mat with creative equipment including release ball work, therabands, yoga blankets/blocks and weights. All levels encouraged as she will meet you where you are on your exercise journey.
